Russia Warns of Retaliation Against UK Military Sites Over Ukraine Attacks

Russia has issued a stark warning, stating it reserves the right to strike British military facilities in retaliation for Ukrainian attacks on Russian territory using weapons supplied by London. Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for Russia's Foreign Ministry, conveyed this threat, as reported by Interfax.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin sought to downplay fears of escalation, with spokesperson Dmitry Peskov dismissing media reports about Russia's alleged intentions to attack NATO as mere "scaremongering" and "unfounded." Peskov criticized what he described as an "aggressive policy" from European countries towards Russia, characterizing contrary speculations as a distortion of reality.

Peskov further elaborated in an interview with Bloomberg that Russia has no need for military escalation, emphasizing that its forces are advancing in Ukraine. This statement comes as Russian troops reportedly push forward along a 160-kilometer front to gain control of the Donetsk region, with some units reaching within four kilometers of Sloviansk's eastern outskirts.

In parallel, Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) chief Serghei Nyshkin confirmed a meeting in Moscow with CIA Director John Brennan. Nyshkin described the encounter as a standard "working meeting" without anything unusual, though he acknowledged discussing sensitive intelligence matters. The Wall Street Journal, citing informed sources, reported that Brennan's surprise visit was intended to caution Russia against attacking NATO member states, following new U.S. intelligence assessments suggesting a potential limited attack on a NATO ally by Russia in the coming years.
