Russian Attack on Ukrainian Shopping Center Kills 14, Injures 90

A Russian attack on a shopping center in the city of Kryvyi Rig in central Ukraine has resulted in 14 deaths and approximately 90 injuries, according to initial reports. Six children are among the wounded, with 21 individuals in serious condition, as stated by Oleksandr Hanzha, head of the military administration in the Dnipropetrovsk region where the city is located.

"The number of casualties from the attack on Kryvyi Rig is rising," Hanzha reported, adding that several shops within the shopping center caught fire. Unverified videos circulating on social media depict rescue workers assisting injured individuals near the scene. Some footage appears to show a second drone crashing into the building's roof shortly after the initial strike, which had already caused smoke to billow from the structure.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy vehemently condemned the attack on X, formerly Twitter. "A completely cynical and disgusting attack was carried out by Russians against a normal shopping center in Kryvyi Rig," he wrote. Zelenskyy noted that drones struck in two waves, with a second attack targeting rescue personnel approximately half an hour after the first strike and subsequent fire.

Kryvyi Rig, President Zelenskyy's hometown, has been subjected to numerous attacks throughout the war. The industrial city is situated about 60 kilometers from the front lines, making it a frequent target.
