Russian Attacks Kill Four in Ukraine as Moscow and Kyiv Prepare for Visit by US Envoys

Russian attacks killed four workers at an industrial facility in Ukraine’s southern Dnipropetrovsk region as Moscow and Kyiv awaited a planned visit by US envoys seeking to revive peace talks.

Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, are expected to travel to the region as aerial attacks intensify. Their last known visit to Moscow took place in January, when they met Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Kremlin. They have not visited Kyiv, although Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he expected them in the capital on Sunday.

The overnight strike killed a locksmith, an electrician, a plumber and a machinist, according to Oleksandr Hanzha, head of the local military administration. “A locksmith, an electrician, a plumber and a machinist. Hanzha said a 62-year-old man was also wounded and homes and an apartment building were damaged in a separate attack in the Nikopol district. Russia’s Defense Ministry said its forces had struck two metallurgical plants, calling them major suppliers of metal products for Ukraine’s military production.

Two more people were wounded in an attack on the Kyiv region, where a fire partially destroyed a nine-story residential building in the Boryspil district. Zelenskyy said Russian strikes had also hit Kyiv and Boryspil international airports, linking them to preparations for a possible US aircraft visit. “We have taken note of this Russian move, and next week we will adjust our operation accordingly regarding Russian airspace, which has become dangerous because of our drones and missiles in the sky. Of course, there are and will be no threats to diplomacy from our side,” he wrote. The air war has intensified along the 1,250-kilometer front line, even as Zelenskyy offered to suspend Ukrainian air attacks during the envoys’ visit.
