Russian Ballistic Strike Kills 10 After Ukraine’s Zelenskyy Hosts US Company Making Patriots

A Russian ballistic missile attack struck a site near Kyiv hosting a defense industry event, killing at least 10 people and injuring nearly 100, according to Ukrainian officials. The strike occurred just one day after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with senior representatives from Raytheon, the U.S. company that manufactures the Patriot air defense systems crucial for Ukraine's defense.

The attack hit the grounds of a privately operated military training facility in the Bucha district, approximately 20-30 kilometers from central Kyiv. Emergency services responded to the scene, where damage was also reported to 27 homes and 44 vehicles. The Ukrainian Defense Industry Council confirmed that industry representatives were present at the site during the attack.

President Zelenskyy, who confirmed the attack on social media, stated that "Missiles for Patriot systems are the number one priority." He had previously announced talks with a Raytheon delegation, indicating the company's readiness to jointly produce Patriot interceptors with Ukraine.

Ruslan Kravchenko, Ukraine's prosecutor general, has initiated a war crimes investigation into the missile strike. A separate criminal case is also examining potential negligence in the organization of the event, focusing on who approved its location, timing, and format, and whether adequate safety precautions were in place. Meanwhile, a Ukrainian attack on an oil facility in Russia reportedly killed six people and wounded 26 others.
