Russian drone strikes SBU headquarters in Kyiv as Zelenskyy promises a response worthy of the attack

A Russian drone struck the central building of Ukraine’s Security Service, or SBU, on Volodymyrska Street in Kyiv, directly opposite St. Sophia’s Cathedral. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the drone targeted the office of the agency’s chief, Oleksandr Poklad.

A source who spoke to Agence France-Presse said Poklad was not in his office when the attack occurred.

Seven people were injured in the historic district, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said. Six of them were receiving hospital treatment. It was not immediately clear whether any SBU personnel were among the wounded. Reuters witnesses reported thick black smoke rising over the city center, while AFP journalists saw ambulances at the scene.

Air-raid alerts sounded repeatedly as Moscow continued its air attacks on Kyiv for a 10th consecutive day.
