Russian missile attacks on Kyiv kill at least nine, wound dozens

Kyiv endured a severe Russian missile and drone assault, resulting in at least nine fatalities and 28 injuries, including four children. The strikes impacted five districts of the capital, damaging residential buildings and vehicles.

Russia's defense ministry claimed the "massive strike" targeted "Ukrainian military-industrial complex facilities and logistics centres in Kyiv." However, local officials reported widespread damage to homes and vehicles, with seven people killed and 14 wounded in the Darnytsky district alone. Another two died and eight were injured in the Solomiansky district.

Residents described a worsening situation, with daily attacks replacing less frequent strikes. "It's getting worse by the day," said Liudmyla Nakonechna, 64, speaking from a basement shelter. "Whereas before there was an attack once every two weeks, or maybe once a week, now it happens practically every day. It is incredibly hard to bear this psychologically."

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine's air defense systems managed to intercept only one of 27 Russian ballistic missiles launched during the attack. He attributed this to a shortage of interceptors for systems like the US Patriot. Zelenskyy also reported that Russia fired a total of 35 missiles and 185 drones, with Kyiv as the primary target. This comes after recent discussions with US President Donald Trump regarding potential Patriot missile production licenses for Ukraine, though Trump expressed caution about such a move.
