Russian strikes kill 1 in Kyiv, wound over a dozen

Russian missile and drone attacks struck Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, shortly after midnight, killing a woman and injuring at least a dozen others. The barrage damaged residential buildings and several warehouses, according to local authorities.

Kyiv's military administration reported the attack triggered an ammonia leak, which emergency crews were working to contain. Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that three people were hospitalized, one in serious condition. Rescue teams were searching for people potentially trapped under the rubble of a destroyed warehouse near the city center.

This latest barrage follows intensified long-range attacks from both sides in recent weeks. Russia has more than doubled its missile use in July, while Ukraine has increased drone strikes on Russian infrastructure. The UN human rights monitors have expressed concern over rising civilian casualties, reaching their highest level since Russia's invasion in February 2022.

Ukraine has repeatedly urged its allies to supply more US-made Patriot interceptors to defend its airspace against ballistic missiles. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has argued that a shortage of these interceptors emboldens Russia to continue its deadly attacks.
