Russian Su-57 fighter jet crashes near Moscow, pilot safe

A Russian Su-57 fighter jet crashed in a field near Zvenigorod, a town located approximately 40 kilometers west of Moscow. The incident occurred around midday, according to local media reports, with witnesses stating the combat aircraft was flying at a low altitude over the city before the pilot ejected.

The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed the crash, assuring that the aircraft fell in an unpopulated area, thus avoiding any damage to urban infrastructure. The ministry also reported that the pilot is safe. Preliminary findings indicate that a technical malfunction was the likely cause of the accident.

Notably, the Su-57 was not carrying any weaponry at the time of the flight. This incident follows a similar event in June, when a Tu-22M3 bomber crashed in the Siberian region of Irkutsk. In that case, the crew members also managed to parachute to safety moments before impact.
