RÚV Takes ‘Kappsmál’ Off the Schedule

“Kappsmál” will not appear on RÚV this autumn, its producers have announced on social media. Hosts Bragi Valdimar Skúlason and musician Vigdís Hafliðadóttir will therefore not be on screen with the show this winter.

The producers described making the program as an enjoyable adventure involving many people. They also highlighted its recent success at the Icelandic Television Awards, where it was named entertainment program of the year.

What pleased them most, they said, was hearing that the show had become part of family time and encouraged lively discussion about the Icelandic language. “Our language is fragile, precious and fun, and it stays alive above all when we use it and, ideally, enjoy doing so along the way. Let’s keep doing that,” they wrote.

The producers have not ruled out bringing the program back later, but no decision has been made. They thanked viewers for watching. Vigdís Hafliðadóttir joined Skúlason after Björg Magnúsdóttir, now president of the Reykjavík City Council, had appeared alongside him.
