Rwanda Partners with US Firm Planet Labs to Boost Satellite Data Use

Rwanda is set to significantly expand its utilization of satellite data through a new partnership with the American company Planet Labs. Announced on Monday, August 10, this collaboration marks a strategic move by the Rwandan government to harness advanced geospatial information.

The program will be overseen by the newly established Rwanda Space Agency (RSA). This agency will serve as the central body for managing the integration of Planet's extensive satellite imagery and data into various national applications. The partnership is expected to bolster Rwanda's capacity in areas such as agriculture, environmental monitoring, urban planning, and disaster management.

Planet Labs operates a constellation of satellites that provide high-resolution, frequent imagery of the Earth. By making this data accessible to Rwanda, the partnership aims to empower the nation with up-to-date information for informed decision-making and development planning.
