Rybakina rallies past Gauff to set up Canadian Open final with Swiatek

Elena Rybakina fought back from a set down to defeat Coco Gauff 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 and advance to the Canadian Open final. The Kazakhstani player, seeded second and ranked world number two, showed resilience after dropping a tight first set.

Rybakina found her rhythm in the second set, dominating with her serve and becoming more aggressive from the baseline. She won 74% of her first-service points and 62% of her second-service points throughout the match, while Gauff struggled with six double faults compared to Rybakina's one.

The decisive third set saw Rybakina maintain her pressure. Gauff, who had reached the semifinals without dropping a set, faltered again, losing serve twice. Rybakina converted four of her 11 break opportunities, while Gauff managed only one of four. Rybakina's powerful game ultimately proved too much for the American.

This victory ties Rybakina's career record against Gauff at 1-1. Their previous encounter was also in Toronto in 2022, where Gauff won a lengthy three-set match. Rybakina now prepares to face Iga Swiatek in the final.
