Sønderjyske signs Icelandic international defender

Danish Superliga club Sønderjyske has strengthened its defense by signing Icelandic national team player Brynjar Ingi Bjarnason. The 26-year-old central defender arrives from German club Greuther Fürth and has signed a three-year contract with his new team.

Bjarnason's arrival comes just hours after Sønderjyske confirmed the sale of Magnus Jensen to FC Midtjylland, filling the gap in the team's central defense. The Icelandic international has previously played for Italian club Lecce and Norwegian teams Vålerenga and HamKam. He has also earned 17 caps for the Icelandic national team.

Expressing his happiness with the transfer, Bjarnason stated, "It is a team that needs no introduction to me. He added that he knows current players Daniel Gretarsson and Runar Sigurgeirsson from the national team, as well as former players like Kristall Ingason and Sölvi Ottesen. According to Sønderjyske's website, Bjarnason will be the 16th Icelander to play for the club, highlighting a long-standing connection between the team and Icelandic talent.
