Saharan dust and heat dominate weather in Dominican Republic

Dominican Republic residents can expect hazy skies and continued hot weather as moderate concentrations of Saharan dust particles dominate the atmosphere. The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) reported that mornings will be sunny but overcast, with temperatures ranging from 23-25°C (73-77°F) for lows and 33-35°C (91-95°F) for highs.

Indomet advises the public to drink plenty of fluids, limit sun exposure between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., wear light-colored clothing, and seek cool, ventilated areas. Special attention should be given to children, pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals with health conditions.

Light, isolated showers are predicted for the morning in provinces like La Altagracia, El Seibo, and Hato Mayor, attributed to moisture from the northeast winds and an atmospheric trough. By afternoon, heavier showers with thunderstorms and wind gusts are expected in San Pedro de Macorís, Greater Santo Domingo, and San Cristóbal, influenced by an approaching tropical wave.

Looking ahead, Indomet is monitoring two tropical wave disturbances. One is located southwest of Cape Verde with a 20% chance of development this week, while another near Africa's west coast has a 40% chance of cyclonic development. Similar conditions, including hazy skies and scattered showers, are forecast for Monday and Tuesday.
