Dominican Republic faces hot Saturday with showers and Saharan dust

Dominicans can expect a hot Saturday dominated by the pervasive influence of Saharan dust, according to the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet). While the day begins with warmth, pockets of rain are anticipated in various eastern and central provinces.

Early morning showers are forecast for locations including La Altagracia, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, Samaná, Sánchez Ramírez, Duarte, María Trinidad Sánchez, Monte Plata, San Cristóbal, and Peravia. These brief downpours offer temporary respite from the heat before the dust's impact intensifies.

As the day progresses into the afternoon, the concentration of Saharan dust will peak. This phenomenon will significantly reduce atmospheric humidity, leading to isolated showers and thunderstorms. Indomet predicts these conditions will primarily affect inland areas such as Monte Plata, Monseñor Nouel, San Cristóbal, Sánchez Ramírez, La Vega, San Juan, Elías Piña, and Dajabón.

Indomet advises the public to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged sun exposure between 11 AM and 4 PM, and wear light-colored, breathable clothing due to the high temperatures, which are expected to range from 23°C to 25°C at their lowest and 33°C to 35°C at their highest. Vulnerable groups, including children, pregnant women, the elderly, and those with health conditions, require special attention.
