Sahmyook University professor's New Service Development book selected for 2026 Sejong Books

A book by Sahmyook University business professor Hwang Hye-mi has been selected for the academic category of the 2026 Sejong Books program.

New Service Development, published by Jeongdok, examines how companies identify and create services that meet changing customer needs and produce positive customer experiences. Hwang was previously selected for the program in 2023 with her book Service Management, also published by Jeongdok.

The Sejong Books program, run by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Publication Industry Promotion Agency, selects high-quality academic and general-interest books for distribution to public libraries nationwide. This year's academic category received 2,194 applications, of which 345 titles were chosen.

The book covers the basic concepts of new service development, major trends in service innovation and the detailed stages of the NSD process. It also addresses customer-experience design, business-model development and the organizational culture needed for successful implementation. Examples from several industries show how new services can change corporate competition and customers' daily lives.

Hwang has researched and taught service management for 33 years and has advised organizations in retail, finance, hotels, public institutions and hospitals. She currently holds positions with several Korean service-management, production-management and standards organizations.
