Sahmyook University professors Kim Il-ok and Park Cheol-ju to retire

Two distinguished professors at Sahmyook University, Kim Il-ok of the Nursing Department and Park Cheol-ju of the Business Administration Department, are set to retire on August 31. Their long careers dedicated to education and university development will be recognized with national honors: Professor Kim will receive the Geunjeong Medal, and Professor Park will be awarded the Presidential Commendation.

Professor Kim Il-ok has devoted over 40 years to advancing nursing education and nurturing future nurses since beginning her career as an instructor in June 1988. She held key positions such as Dean of the College of Nursing and Director of the BLS Center, significantly contributing to the quality of nursing education. Professor Kim was instrumental in establishing the BLS Center, expanding basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation training to the wider community. Her research on infant care, safety education, and work-life balance for nurses in shift work has informed national health initiatives. Her dedication to her students extended beyond academics, as she personally donated over 100 million won to support students facing financial difficulties.

Professor Park Cheol-ju, with 27 years of service, has played a pivotal role in the university's innovation and growth. He held numerous key administrative positions, including Head of Planning, Head of Academic Affairs, and Dean of the Graduate School of Business Administration. Professor Park is credited with creating the 'SU-MVP' (Mission, Vision, Passion) talent development concept, which has become a core educational value at Sahmyook University, providing a roadmap for its educational philosophy.

The professors' intellectual and spiritual achievements and their exemplary love for their students will continue to live on in the university's educational field and in the lives of their students.

Beyond administration, Professor Park championed entrepreneurship education. He introduced the 'Entrepreneurship and Startups' course in 2012, later developing it into an online K-MOOC program to broaden its reach. He also organized startup camps for middle and high school students, contributing to community education. In 2024, he established the 'Pilip (必立) Frontier Scholarship Fund' with a personal donation of 100 million won, supporting students with entrepreneurial aspirations and embodying a spirit of sharing and dedication.

The university held a retirement ceremony for both professors on August 25. University President Je Hae-jong praised their intellectual and spiritual achievements, stating that their examples of love for their students will continue to influence the university and its graduates. He expressed wishes for God's grace and blessings upon their future endeavors.
