Sungkonghoe University Appoints Former Seoul Superintendent Cho Hee-yeon as Distinguished Professor

Sungkonghoe University has announced the appointment of Cho Hee-yeon, the former Superintendent of Education for the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, as a distinguished professor, effective September 1st. Cho's tenure as superintendent spanned ten years, from 2014 to 2024, during which he also served as the chairman of the National Council of Superintendents.

Prior to his role in educational administration, Cho was an integral part of Sungkonghoe University's academic community. He served as a professor in the Department of Sociology and the Graduate School of NGO Studies for 24 years, from 1990 to 2014. His extensive experience also includes leadership positions in various academic and civic organizations, such as co-representative of the National Professors' Council for Democratization and chairman of the Critical Sociology Society.

Cho Hee-yeon's academic contributions are marked by numerous publications, including "Sick Society, Hurtful Education," "Beyond Top-Ranked Education," and "Everyone Should Have the Same Education Regardless of Birthplace." His appointment as distinguished professor is for a two-year term, concluding on August 31, 2026.

In addition to Cho's appointment, the university recognized five faculty members for their significant contributions to the institution's growth and the development of students. These individuals, Park Eun-hong, Yang Ki-ho, Jang Seung-kwon, Kim Chang-jin, and Yoo Cheol-gyu, have been appointed as honorary professors. Furthermore, distinguished professor Lee Hee-soo, from the Department of Religion and Theology, was reappointed for another year, recognizing his active research and educational contributions during his previous term.
