Šajn Finishes 17th in European Marathon; Vainio and Petros Set Records

Slovenia's Liza Šajn secured 17th place in the women's marathon on the final day of the European Championships in Birmingham, achieving her best time of the season with 2:31:22. The 42.2-kilometer race saw Finland's Alisa Vainio claim the gold medal, leading from start to finish and setting a new championship record of 2:22:26. Vainio's victory was decisive, surpassing her closest competitor by nearly five minutes and breaking the previous record by almost three minutes. Silver went to Lili Anna Vindics-Toth of Hungary, and bronze to Abbie Donnelly of Great Britain. In the team standings, Great Britain took first place, followed by Italy and Spain. The men's marathon also featured a record-breaking performance, with Germany's Amanal Petros winning in 2:09:11, improving the championship record by 40 seconds. Italy's Pietro Riva finished second, just seven seconds behind, and Gashau Ayele of Israel took bronze. Israel won the men's team title, ahead of Germany and France. The Slovenian team has concluded its participation in Birmingham, with the championships set to wrap up with evening events.
