Salomón Rondón Confirms Top Scoring Position in Pachuca Victory

Salomón Rondón strengthened his position as the Mexican Apertura's leading scorer by scoring in Pachuca's 2-0 victory over Juárez FC.

The Venezuelan forward broke the deadlock in the 54th minute. He controlled a pass from Carlos Sánchez and finished left-footed to make it 1-0. It was Rondón's 48th goal in 100 appearances for Pachuca, making him the seventh-highest scorer in the club's history.

Rondón now has seven goals in the tournament, two more than Monterrey's Argentine forward Lucas Ocampos. Alan Bautista added Pachuca's second goal with a right-footed finish in the 10th minute of stoppage time.

Juárez pushed for an equalizer after falling behind, but Madson sent a 78th-minute shot wide. The defeat left Juárez with seven losses from seven matches, the tournament's worst record. Pachuca climbed to 11th with two wins, two draws, three defeats and eight points, half the total of leaders América.

Four more seventh-round matches were scheduled for the weekend after four fixtures were postponed. Guadalajara were due to visit San Luis, Necaxa to face Tigres UANL and Atlante to play Atlas, while Cruz Azul and Santos Laguna were set to close the sixth round on Sunday.
