Samaniego Warns Republican Embrace Will Come With Conditions

Independent Colorado Party senator Lilian Samaniego has called for active electoral participation, warning that the party's unity hinges on addressing allegations of voter intimidation. Speaking after casting her vote, Samaniego directly addressed female party members, highlighting their fundamental role in the democratic process.

"I want the Colorado women to ask their husbands and sons if they have already voted, because Paraguayan women are the backbone of their families and know what they want for Asunción," she stated. Samaniego stressed that women's influence is vital for securing votes and ensuring the party's success.

A central point of her address concerned the traditional "republican embrace," a gesture of unity within the party. Samaniego was firm, declaring that any such reconciliation would be conditional. She stipulated that any agreement must be preceded by a thorough clarification of irregularities observed during the campaign.

Samaniego invoked the foundational principles of the National Republican Association (ANR), recalling its definition as a union of free men and women. She urged the party to distance itself from coercive political practices and prioritize the well-being of Paraguayan families.
