Sami Välimäki Sneaks into Major Championship Field

Finnish golfer Sami Välimäki will compete in the final major championship of the golf season, The Open, also known as the British Open. The prestigious tournament is set to take place from July 16 to 19 at Royal Birkdale in Southport, England.

Välimäki, 27, earned his place in the 154th edition of The Open by filling an available spot in the field, based on his current world ranking. He is currently ranked 71st globally, with the field including players up to the 76th position.

This will be Välimäki's third major appearance of the year. He has previously competed in the Masters and the PGA Championship. He was unable to secure a qualifying spot for the U.S. Open in mid-June. In total, this will be his ninth major championship appearance of his career.

Välimäki is currently in his third season on the PGA Tour. He made history last year by becoming the first Finnish player to win a PGA Tour event. To date, he has earned over $5.2 million in prize money on the tour, which equates to approximately 4.55 million euros at the current exchange rate.
