Sammo Hung, 74, supports 80-year-old Yasuaki Kurata in new action film 'Dream Story'

Veteran action star Sammo Hung, 74, is set to defy perceptions of his physical condition by appearing in the new film "Dream Story." Hung, who has been seen using a wheelchair in public, will showcase his enduring martial arts prowess in a special guest role to support his long-time friend, 80-year-old Japanese martial arts legend Yasuaki Kurata. The film "Dream Story" serves as a dual celebration, marking Kurata's 80th birthday and his 60th anniversary in the entertainment industry. Kurata, known as "The Dragon of Japan," remains dedicated to martial arts training, practicing daily. He was a prominent figure in Hong Kong cinema during the 1970s and 1980s. The film, which Kurata is producing and starring in, is being hailed as a testament to his status as the "world's oldest action actor." Both Hung and Kurata are reportedly performing "real fights" in their scenes, adding an authentic and thrilling element to the production. The film itself is structured as a triptych, with one segment directed by Kenji Tanigaki, the action choreographer for "Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In." This particular segment features Kurata as Heizo, an 80-year-old character who unexpectedly travels back in time to July 20, 1973, the anniversary of Bruce Lee's death, in an attempt to save the legendary martial artist. Kurata, who began learning karate at age six, has a significant career in martial arts films, gaining recognition in Hong Kong and Taiwan. He starred in the 1971 action film "The Angry Guest" and collaborated on the Taiwanese television drama "Flying Flower Chasing Moon" in 1985. "Dream Story" is currently being screened in Japan. Hung's son, Timmy Hung, has previously clarified that his father only uses a wheelchair privately due to knee pain or when undertaking long walks, not during filming or public appearances.
