Samos: Migrant dies during rescue operation

A migrant from Sudan has died on the Greek island of Samos during a rescue operation in the sea north of Isidoros bay. The Hellenic Coast Guard was alerted after a boat carrying migrants was spotted.

The deceased man had been reported missing after the boat was located. His body was found by a civilian diver who was participating in the extensive search efforts. The circumstances surrounding his death are under investigation.

In total, 35 people who were on board the vessel were successfully rescued and brought safely to the port of Karlouvasi. From there, they were transported to the controlled closed structure on Samos for the necessary registration procedures.

The rescue operation involved multiple assets, including a patrol boat from the Hellenic Coast Guard, a floating ambulance, a vessel from the Hellenic Rescue Team, and a Super Puma helicopter from the Hellenic Air Force, highlighting the scale of the emergency response.
