Samsung Lions' ace Jurado injured, team seeks replacement

The Samsung Lions, who finished the first half of the season in first place, are facing a significant challenge as their ace pitcher, Ariel Jurado, has sustained a shoulder injury. The team confirmed on July 14 that Jurado is expected to be sidelined for approximately six weeks, prompting an urgent search for a temporary replacement.

Jurado has been a cornerstone of the Lions' pitching staff this season. In the first half, he recorded an impressive 5-1 win-loss record with a 3.11 earned run average. His performance was particularly crucial, as his Wins Above Replacement (WAR) ranked seventh overall among pitchers and highest among the Lions' hurlers. He also led all starting pitchers in the league with 13 quality starts, demonstrating his consistency and reliability on the mound.

The injury means Jurado will miss the start of the second half of the season. He was originally scheduled to pitch in the first game against the Lotte Giants on July 16. Instead, Yang Chang-seop will take the mound for that game. Pitcher Won Tae-in is slated to start the second game on July 17, followed by newly acquired Chris Paddock's KBO league debut in the third game on July 18.
