Samsung's Lee Jae-yong stresses global AI cooperation, recalls childhood dream inspiration

Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong underscored the indispensable nature of global collaboration in advancing artificial intelligence, asserting that the AI era cannot be shaped by the efforts of a single company or nation.

Speaking at the San Francisco AI Summit, Lee expressed his awe at the speed at which AI is reshaping lives and societies during his visits to Silicon Valley. He pointed out that the future landscape will be dramatically different depending on how AI is developed and utilized, fundamentally altering how humanity works, thinks, and lives.

Lee stressed the need for a comprehensive ecosystem, encompassing not only innovative AI models and cutting-edge semiconductors but also stable data centers and reliable power. He specifically noted the complementary strengths of South Korea and the United States, with the U.S. possessing superior foundational technology and talent, and South Korea excelling in advanced manufacturing of semiconductors and devices. He believes their combined strengths can accelerate innovation, foster growth, and solve complex challenges.

Reflecting on his own past, Lee shared a childhood anecdote from his autobiography about a young boy in a rural village who dreamed of the future after seeing a helicopter for the first time. He vowed that Samsung would dedicate its efforts to ensuring the next generation, living in the AI era, can pursue their dreams with the same sense of wonder and possibility.
