San Juan governor expresses condolences after seven die in helicopter crash

San Juan Governor Marcelo Orrego has expressed deep sorrow and offered condolences to the families of the seven individuals who perished in a helicopter crash in the province. The governor announced that provincial resources are being made available to provide necessary assistance to those affected by the tragedy.

"I want to express my most sincere condolences to the families of all the victims in this moment of immense pain. We accompany each of their loved ones," Orrego stated. He confirmed that his administration is working with relevant agencies to offer support.

The victims included four high-ranking public servants: Carlos Heredia, director of Civil Protection; Germán Videla, deputy chief of the San Juan Police; Rubén Castro, chief of Firefighters; and Jorge Carbajal, second chief of Firefighters. Orrego remembered them as public servants who dedicated their lives to the safety of the province's residents.

Also lost in the crash were pilot Matías Valenzuela and two brigadistas, Andrés Bosch and Rodrigo Aimetta. The helicopter was on a training mission for firefighting and was en route to La Rioja when it issued an alert around 10:30 AM. It was found hours later with no survivors.

Former San Juan Governor and current Senator Sergio Uñac also conveyed his sadness, honoring the seven individuals as "valuable public servants" who died fulfilling their duties. He extended his respects to their families and colleagues, acknowledging his honor in working with some of them. Uñac also recognized the professionalism and solidarity of the search and rescue teams.
