San Lorenzo celebrates patron saint with cultural and religious events

The city of San Lorenzo, Paraguay, is preparing a rich cultural and religious program in honor of its patron saint, San Lorenzo, a deacon and martyr. Festivities began Sunday afternoon with the eve's mass and artistic serenades, drawing a significant public presence.

The main religious service, held at the San Lorenzo Cathedral after the Holy Rosary, was presided over by His Holiness's Apostolic Nuncio in Paraguay, Archbishop Vincenzo Turturro. The mass centered on the theme "Providing Effective Social Protection for All." Following the religious ceremony, a serenade dedicated to the patron saint took place on the Cathedral's esplanade, featuring performances by artists from the Municipal Institute of Art, Héctor Ramírez y su grupo, Grupo Génesis, Mirtha Noemí Talavera, and Francisco Russo.

As part of the patronal festivities, a special prayer was scheduled for 11:50 p.m., followed by a fireworks display. At midnight, the group Las Paraguayas was set to perform a serenade. These events are part of a broader celebration honoring the saint and the city's heritage.

Separately, the Municipality of San Lorenzo is organizing events for the city's 251st anniversary. These include a serenade at the headquarters of the National Union of Ethical Citizens (Unace) party. To accommodate these celebrations, traffic diversions are in place on Mariscal López Avenue and surrounding streets from midday Sunday until early Monday morning. The anniversary events will continue with cultural activities and another serenade at the UNACE venue.
