San Luis defeats Curicó Unido away, closing gap on league leaders

San Luis began the second half of the Liga de Ascenso season with a crucial 2-1 away win over Curicó Unido at Estadio La Granja. The victory propelled the Quillotano team, managed by former national striker Humberto Suazo, into the upper echelons of the league standings on matchday 17.

San Luis took the lead in the 18th minute when Diego González capitalized on a loose ball in the box to beat the goalkeeper. The visitors extended their advantage in the 58th minute with a goal from Sebastián Parada, who finished a low cross from the right flank. Curicó Unido managed to pull one back late in the game through Cristian Bustamante's shot in the 88th minute, but it was not enough to salvage a point.

This result allowed the "canario" squad to climb to third place in the table with 23 points, placing them just three points behind co-leaders Santiago Wanderers and Cobreloa. In contrast, the Maulino team remains stagnant in twelfth place with 18 units.

Looking ahead, San Luis will host bottom-placed Rangers next Friday at 6 p.m., while Curicó Unido faces a tough match against Cobreloa on Saturday, August 1st, at 5:30 p.m.
