San Miguelito Mayor Demands Comprehensive Security Plan After New Homicides

San Miguelito Mayor Irma Hernández is urging authorities to implement a comprehensive security plan for the district after recent homicides in Villa Lucre and Santa Marta. The district had experienced a 15-day period without any killings, a significant achievement in a year that has seen 70 homicides. Hernández highlighted the profound impact of these peaceful days, stating that each day without deaths meant families were not mourning and children were not losing parents.

For a year with 70 homicides, 15 days without a single homicide is a great achievement.

However, this period of calm was broken by recent incidents, including a double homicide in Villa Lucre and another in Santa Marta. Hernández expressed that the current measures, such as mobility restrictions in some areas, are only temporary solutions and do not fundamentally resolve the issue of violence. She receives daily reports from the National Police and stressed that while the reduction in homicides was a significant achievement, it is not enough.

I receive a report from the National Police every morning and receiving for 15 days a message where there were no deaths meant that there were no families crying, it meant that there were no families broken up, it meant that there were minors who have not lost their parents and that is an achievement.

"It is not enough, it is a palliative, it is a temporary measure that is needed," Hernández stated, reiterating her call for a comprehensive security plan from the main security authorities. She affirmed that she is doing what she can from the mayor's office. The curfew in effect in some districts is nearing its expiration, and the mayor is in discussions with security agencies to request measures that will benefit both restricted communities and the rest of San Miguelito.
