CSS attributes insured's record to error involving similar ID numbers

The Panamanian Social Security Fund (CSS) has stated that an irregular labor record appearing for an insured individual, Julissa Morales, was the result of an "error" involving two social security numbers that differ by only one digit. Morales had reported that her record showed her working for the National Assembly from January to December 2023 with an annual salary of $4,933.30, a claim she denies authorizing or knowing about.

According to preliminary findings communicated by the CSS, the inconsistency was caused by a "between two social security numbers that differ only by a digit." The institution acknowledged that the issue was noticed and investigated in the same year it occurred, 2023, but the correction was not made at that time. Consequently, the erroneous record persisted on the Mi Caja Digital platform.

Further technical audits conducted by the CSS have confirmed that the inconsistency pertains to the accreditation of a single month's contribution in December 2023, not an entire year as initially suggested by Morales's report. The case gained public attention after Morales discovered the alleged unauthorized employment relationship while checking her work history on Mi Caja Digital.

The matter is also under investigation by the Public Ministry for alleged payroll irregularities within the National Assembly during the previous administration. The Superior Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office is independently investigating three similar cases involving alleged irregular registration of contributions through state payrolls for individuals who were not public employees.
