Sanda Țăranu, the 'golden voice' of Romanian TV and a symbol of elegance, has died

Sanda Țăranu, a beloved and iconic figure of Romanian Television (TVR), has passed away at the age of 87. She is remembered as the "golden voice" and a symbol of elegance that defined the golden age of Romanian broadcasting.

For nearly four decades, Țăranu was the face of sobriety, impeccable diction, and flawless presentation for viewers. In an era where TV announcers were true cultural symbols, she embodied professionalism and refinement. Her voice became synonymous with "Teleenciclopedia," one of Romanian television's longest-running programs.

Born in Bucharest in 1939, Țăranu initially studied industrial chemistry before shifting her focus to the arts. She graduated from the I.L. Caragiale Institute of Theatre and Cinematography in 1963, having already begun collaborating with TVR. Shortly after graduation, she was offered a position as a TV announcer, launching a career that would make her one of the most cherished personalities on screen.

Throughout the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, Sanda Țăranu hosted cultural programs, special events, and significant broadcasts, including the "Cerbul de Aur" (Golden Stag) Festival. Even after her official retirement from television in 1998, she continued to occasionally collaborate with TVR as a narrator and producer, maintaining her connection to the institution that shaped her career.

Her family announced the schedule for her final tribute and funeral services, stating, "Today we are not saying goodbye to a star that sets, because her star will never set. It will continue to shine through her memory, through the model of professionalism she offered, and through the elegance that inspired so many generations. Her light will endure in gratitude, respect, and immortality."
