Santa Cruz governor: 'We are here to execute decentralization, not demand it'

Santa Cruz Governor Juan Pablo Velasco declared that his presence at a meeting with President Rodrigo Paz and eight other governors in Sucre was not to demand autonomy or decentralization, but to actively implement it. "We are not here to demand autonomy, we are not here to demand or ask for decentralization; we are here to execute it," Velasco stated before entering the high-level discussion.

Velasco, representing the Santa Cruz department, aims to ensure that regional governments can fully exercise their constitutionally assigned competencies. He presented a proposal that he described as entirely feasible, focusing on granting each entity what is rightfully theirs. "We simply came with a totally possible plan, without taking anything away from anyone, simply giving everyone what corresponds to them. We just want to have and execute the right we have to execute the vision of those of us who are close to the people," he added.
