Sanullim's Kim Chang-hoon Forms New Band 'Kkamang,' Announces October Debut

Kim Chang-hoon, a foundational member of the iconic South Korean band Sanullim, is embarking on a new musical chapter with the formation of a fresh band named 'Kkamang.' The group unites Kim with a team of musicians in their thirties, signaling a blend of seasoned artistry and contemporary energy.

The newly formed ensemble, officially titled 'Kim Chang-hoon and Kkamang Band,' comprises drummer Kim Sun, guitarist Baek Seon-hyuk, bassist Jeong Ga, and keyboardist Yeo Ji-soo. Unlike a session-based collaboration, Kkamang is established as a fixed unit dedicated to performing Kim Chang-hoon's extensive catalog, including his influential work with Sanullim, alongside newly created material.

Each member brings a wealth of experience. Drummer Kim Sun has performed with notable groups like Saranggwa Pyeonghwa and Dick Family, and has graced stages at major festivals such as Pentaport Rock Festival and Green Plugged. Guitarist Baek Seon-hyuk, formerly of the rock band Wasted Johnny's, has also contributed to recordings and performances for artists including Lee Sang-eun, Ali, Kyuhyun, Ok Joo-hyun, and Sumi Jo. Bassist Jeong Ga is known for his work with the indie band Like Berry, while jazz pianist Yeo Ji-soo is active in performance, composition, arrangement, and sound design.

The band's debut performance is slated for October 24 at Mpot Hall in Gangnam, Seoul, as part of the Samik Cultural Foundation's 'Invitation from a Great Family' series. This showcase will feature both classic Sanullim tracks and new songs. Additionally, a performance centered on Kim Chang-hoon's "Poetry Song" project is scheduled for December 5 at the same venue.

Looking ahead to Sanullim's 50th anniversary next year, Kim Chang-hoon is actively engaged in commemorative projects. He has completed four out of five planned albums and has finished his "Poetry Song 1000 Songs Project," which sets 1,000 modern Korean poems to music. To mark this milestone, he recently released the album 'Don't Get Hurt' and published the essay collections 'There Are Times Like That' and 'Kim Chang-hoon's Monologue.' Beyond music, Kim Chang-hoon continues his visual arts endeavors, with exhibitions planned in Jeju, Anyang, and Cheongpyeong from late this year through next summer, following his joint exhibition with singer Kim Wan-sun last year.
