São Paulo councilor linked to PCC to remain jailed for 30 more days

São Paulo councilor Senival Moura, a member of the Workers' Party (PT), will spend at least another 30 days in jail. A judge at the São Paulo Court of Justice ordered the extension of his pre-trial detention as part of "Operation Última Parada," which is investigating the infiltration of the powerful criminal organization PCC into the city's public transport system. Moura has been detained since June 25. His defense team expressed strong disagreement with the decision, stating that no concrete evidence justifies his continued imprisonment. The PT councilor is accused by the Public Prosecutor's Office of owning a portion of the fleet belonging to Transunião Transportes S.A. This company, which received R$ 182 million from the São Paulo City Hall, had its operations intervened a month ago. Investigations suggest the company served as a front for the PCC's money laundering activities. Moura, who has a nearly three-decade history in the transport sector and previously chaired the Transport Commission of the São Paulo Municipal Chamber, is alleged to have held a "commanding position" within the business structure under investigation. The judge cited the need to preserve the integrity of ongoing testimonies from family members, associates, and other individuals involved in the probe. While maintaining the detention order, the judge also mandated that prison authorities provide Moura with all necessary medical examinations and specialized care within 24 hours, acknowledging his reported health issues.
