Saudi Arabia Boosts Cultural Engagement with Expanding Initiatives

Saudi Arabia is actively working to integrate its culture more deeply into the daily lives of its citizens and residents. The Ministry of Culture reports significant progress, with heritage sites, literary events, and various cultural initiatives drawing millions of participants and visitors.

Cultural commissions throughout the Kingdom are spearheading efforts to make culture more accessible. Their work centers on reinforcing national identity, extending cultural activities to diverse regions and societal segments, and enhancing the overall quality of life. Latest figures from the Ministry of Culture indicate sustained growth in the cultural ecosystem, marked by increased attendance at events, a rise in trainees and graduates in cultural fields, and an expansion of cultural infrastructure to 94 facilities.

In 2025, the cultural sector hosted 6,314 days of events, exceeding its target by 210%. The sector also provided employment for 282,709 individuals and saw 29,211 graduates in cultural disciplines. More than 14.1 million people visited national and world heritage sites, with 232 sites now open to the public. Historic Jeddah alone welcomed 12 million visitors.

The literary scene is also thriving, with over 1.3 million people attending the Riyadh International Book Fair. Initiatives like book vending machines have distributed over 13,000 books, while short-story dispensers recorded approximately 673,000 reads. Special platforms and audio devices are also being introduced to improve access to literature for visually impaired individuals.

These developments underscore a broader societal shift, with millions of visits recorded for cultural events, surpassing annual targets. The expansion of cultural houses to eight across the Kingdom and the success of the Literary Partner Initiative, which staged 3,668 events in 2025, further highlight the growing engagement with Saudi culture.
