Saudi Arabia Highlights Water Security Efforts at UN Forum, Pledges Global Cooperation

Saudi Arabia has reaffirmed its dedication to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 6, focusing on clean water and sanitation. At the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, the Kingdom showcased its integrated approach to water resource management. This strategy emphasizes improving service efficiency, bolstering water security, and utilizing modern technologies and innovation.

Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Shaibani, Deputy Minister for Water at the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, detailed Saudi Arabia's tangible progress. He noted advancements in water sector management, the expansion of water and sanitation services, and strengthened institutional governance. These efforts contribute to greater efficiency across the water supply chain and support the long-term sustainability of water resources. The Kingdom also highlighted its international initiatives aimed at enhancing global cooperation in the water sector.

Key among these initiatives are the Global Water Organization, designed to foster cooperation and knowledge exchange, and the establishment of the International Water Research Center to support scientific research and capacity building. Furthermore, Saudi Arabia's hosting of the 11th World Water Forum in Riyadh in 2027 is seen as a significant opportunity to advance international dialogue and translate global commitments into practical solutions for water security and sustainable development. The participation in the UN forum also included bilateral meetings to explore ways to bolster cooperation and support the SDGs.
