Saudi Arabia Officially Activates Multinational Maritime Defense Alliance with 39 Nations

Saudi Arabia has officially activated its Multinational Maritime Defense Alliance, a significant initiative bringing together 39 nations to bolster maritime security. The announcement on Thursday, August 13, 2026, marks the operational phase of the alliance after its formation and institutional structuring. The Ministry of Defense stated that the third planning meeting for the alliance was held at the Western Fleet Command Headquarters in Jeddah, attended by representatives from all participating countries.

According to a statement published on X and reported by Aljazeera, 15 nations have signed a joint declaration, signifying their commitment. Furthermore, 13 countries have finalized their national procedures, signed the alliance's charter, and officially joined the coalition. The remaining nations are reportedly in the process of completing their necessary national procedures to become full members.

The activation of the alliance proceeds alongside the rapid development of its institutional framework. Saudi Arabia has already appointed its commander, with Pakistan serving as the deputy commander for the initial period. The alliance's headquarters and logo have been established, and its organizational structure, planning frameworks, and guiding principles for commencing operations have been approved. This coordinated effort underscores a growing regional focus on shared maritime defense capabilities and cooperation.
