Mazin Al-Kahmous, president of Nazaha, signed the agreement on the sidelines of the GlobE Network's seventh plenary meeting at the United Nations headquarters in Vienna. He stated that the new mechanism is designed to enhance the efficiency and security of information exchanges between anti-corruption law enforcement authorities worldwide. This improved cooperation is expected to aid in detecting, investigating, and prosecuting corruption crimes, as well as recovering illicitly obtained assets.
Saudi Arabia's commitment to fighting corruption on a global scale is further underscored by its leading role in the establishment of the GlobE Network itself. During its G20 presidency in 2020, the Kingdom proposed the creation of a secure platform for information exchange among anti-corruption bodies. This initiative was embraced by G20 leaders and formally launched under the UN umbrella in June 2021.
The enhanced mechanism would support efforts to detect and investigate corruption crimes, prosecute perpetrators and recover assets obtained through corruption.
The network has since grown significantly, now encompassing 252 law enforcement authorities from 137 countries, with over 16 organizations participating as observers. Adding to its prominent role, Saudi Arabia is set to assume the presidency of the GlobE Network for the 2025–2027 term, following the unanimous election of Nazaha's Vice President for International Cooperation, Dr. Nasser Abaalkhail, to lead the network.
