Saudi Arabia Tightens Mecca Entry Rules for Hajj Security

The Ministry of Interior in Saudi Arabia has announced stringent new regulations aimed at bolstering the security and smooth execution of the Hajj pilgrimage. Effective April 18, entry into the holy city of Mecca is restricted to individuals possessing a valid Hajj visa. This measure, designed to safeguard pilgrims and manage the influx of visitors, also prohibits individuals with any visa category other than a Hajj visa from entering or remaining in Mecca.

Further tightening the process, all individuals seeking entry into Mecca must now obtain official authorization from the relevant authorities, a rule in effect since April 13, 2026. Exceptions are made for residents with a valid residency permit issued in Mecca, those with an approved Hajj permit, and individuals holding an electronically issued work permit integrated with the Tasreeh system. These measures underscore the Kingdom's commitment to maintaining order and security during this significant religious event.

In addition to entry restrictions, the Ministry has temporarily suspended the issuance of Umrah visas through the Nusuk platform for Saudi citizens, GCC nationals, residents, and holders of other visa types. This suspension will be in effect from April 18 to May 31, 2026. The authorities have emphasized that non-compliance with these new regulations will result in penalties as stipulated by law. These steps reflect Saudi Arabia's ongoing efforts to manage large-scale events and ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.
