Saudi Arabia to fine use of inefficient sanitary ware from 2027

Saudi Arabia is tightening its grip on water conservation with updated regulations set to take effect in March 2027. The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture has approved new executive rules that empower the National Water Efficiency and Conservation Center to investigate and penalize violations.

The regulations target the urban, agricultural, and industrial sectors, with a particular focus on sanitary ware. Using non-efficient fixtures will result in escalating fines, starting at SR1,000 for a first offense and reaching SR10,000 for a third. Tampering with or removing water-saving components of fixtures also carries penalties, with fines ranging from SR500 to SR2,000.

Beyond sanitary fixtures, the updated rules address drinking water wastage from tanks due to cracks. The National Water Efficiency and Conservation Center is authorized to enforce these measures, underscoring the Kingdom's commitment to sustainable water management amidst growing environmental concerns.
