Saudi Customs Foil 1,075 Attempts to Smuggle Prohibited Goods

Saudi customs authorities have recorded 1,075 seizures of prohibited goods at the kingdom’s land, sea and air entry points.

The seizures included 71 types of narcotics, including hashish, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and Captagon pills. Authorities also seized 390 types of banned materials, 2,234 types of tobacco and tobacco products, 39 types of currency and two types of weapons and related equipment.

The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, known as ZATCA, said the operations formed part of its efforts to tighten customs controls and protect society from prohibited goods. It said it continues to monitor imports and exports in coordination with relevant authorities.

ZATCA called on the public to help combat smuggling by reporting violations of the Unified Customs Law through its designated reporting channels. It said reports would remain confidential and that informants could receive a financial reward when the information proved accurate.
