Saudi POS Spending Surges 33% to SR16.3 Billion in One Week

Saudi Arabia experienced a substantial surge in point-of-sale (POS) spending, jumping 33% week-on-week to reach SR16.31 billion in the first week of August. This robust economic activity was reflected in the 267.11 million transactions processed across the Kingdom during the period from July 26 to Aug. 1, according to data from the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA).

The food and beverages sector emerged as the top spending category, accounting for SR2.692 billion. Other sectors collectively followed with SR2.629 billion in spending. Restaurants and cafés were a significant contributor within the hospitality and food services industry, registering 63.676 million transactions valued at SR2.044 billion. Bakeries and confectioneries also saw considerable activity, with 6.758 million transactions totaling SR285.481 million.

Within the retail sector, clothing and accessories generated SR1.409 billion from 11.838 million transactions. The hotel sector recorded 1.106 million transactions worth SR367.627 million. This widespread increase in consumer spending indicates a dynamic economic environment in Saudi Arabia, with various sectors benefiting from the heightened transaction volumes.
