Saxony-Anhalt election: Former CDU minister demands Schulze’s resignation

Former Saxony-Anhalt Education Minister Eva Feußner has demanded that CDU state leader Sven Schulze resign after the party’s clear defeat in the state election.

“If he cares about this state, Sven Schulze must draw consequences and resign as party chairman. There is no other way,” Feußner told Stern. Schulze, who serves as the state’s premier, led the CDU into the election as its top candidate.

Feußner also cautioned against treating the election result as a mandate to form a government. She took a particularly firm line on possible cooperation with Die Linke.

“If there is any form of cooperation with Die Linke, entire local party branches will resign from the party,” she said. Her comments add pressure on Schulze as the CDU considers its position after the vote.
