Saxony-Anhalt Election Tool Used More Than One Million Times

The Wahl-O-Mat has drawn unprecedented interest ahead of Saxony-Anhalt’s state election, with users completing it 1,028,550 times by Wednesday afternoon, the state agency for civic education in Magdeburg said.

The count includes only sessions in which users answered all 38 questions. Usage has more than doubled compared with the state election in 2021.

Maik Reichel, director of the state agency, said the figures showed “very strong interest in the state election, extending far beyond Saxony-Anhalt, and the willingness of many people to form a political opinion based on policy issues and use it to prepare their voting decision.”

The tool will remain online until Sept. 6. Users indicate whether they agree, disagree or feel neutral about 38 statements. Wahl-O-Mat then compares their responses with the positions of parties contesting the election and calculates which party most closely matches their views. It also explains why each party supports a particular position.
