Saxony police welcome 475 new trainees and students

A total of 475 recruits have begun training or university studies with Saxony’s police, following a reform that brought the two career tracks together for the first time.

Among them, 327 women and men started the three-year program to become police officers at police schools in Schneeberg, Chemnitz and Leipzig, as well as in the sports promotion group. A further 148 recruits began a three-year bachelor’s program in Bautzen to become police commissioners.

Students will complete their first year in Bautzen before spending two years in Rothenburg. Previously, the study program began one month after police training. Under the new system, trainees and students are expected to graduate and receive their appointments on the same day.

The Saxony Police University said more than 5,000 people had shown interest in police training or studies, a figure similar to previous years. Fifteen candidates will begin a one-year qualification in October for work combating computer, internet and economic crime. Applications for the next intake remain open online until 1 January 2027.
