SC Freiburg wins friendly against Crystal Palace 3-0 in season opener

SC Freiburg warmed up for their competitive season with a convincing 3-0 victory over Conference League winners Crystal Palace in a friendly match. The game, held at the Europa-Park Stadium as part of the club's official season opening, saw Bundesliga side Freiburg play 90 minutes against the Premier League club, followed by an additional 30 minutes.

Yannik Engelhardt opened the scoring in the 57th minute, tapping in a rebound after a shot from Yuito Suzuki on the newly laid hybrid turf. Following the goal, SC coach Julian Schuster made six substitutions. The team is preparing for their first official match on Thursday, a Conference League playoff against FC Motherwell in Scotland.

Substitutes Lucas Höler and Derry Scherhant extended Freiburg's lead in the latter stages. Höler headed in the second goal from a corner kick by Derry Scherhant in the 66th minute. In the extended 30-minute period, Scherhant sealed the victory, scoring in the 104th minute after a setup from Höler. The effective partnership between Höler and Scherhant was also evident in Freiburg's previous friendly wins against Racing Strasbourg, where Höler scored twice from Scherhant's crosses.
