SC Magdeburg wins anniversary tournament in Aue

German handball champions SC Magdeburg secured victory at the 100th-anniversary tournament hosted by EHV Aue. The team triumphed over Bundesliga relegated side SC DHfK Leipzig with a final score of 35:28. Leipzig put up a strong fight in the first half, but Magdeburg pulled away after halftime.

Leipzig advanced to the final by defeating SG Flensburg-Handewitt 44:42 on Friday evening. SC Magdeburg had previously beaten host club EHV Aue, a third-division team, with a score of 46:31.

The German champions are not resting on their laurels. They are scheduled to test their skills against GWD Minden in their home arena, the Getec-Arena, on Tuesday. This match will be played on a newly renovated court. Following this, Magdeburg will compete in the traditional Wartburg Cup in Eisenach starting Friday. There, they will face league rivals Lemgo, Eisenach, and Flensburg in their final preparations.

The official start to their competitive season is the Supercup match against cup winners Füchse Berlin, set to take place on August 22 in Munich.
