Schools get valuable game time ahead of hockey tournament

Schools in Fiji's central division are receiving valuable game time thanks to a joint effort by the Suva Hockey Association and the Fiji Hockey Federation. The two organizations have begun hosting league matches to prepare students for the Fiji Secondary Schools Hockey tournament scheduled for next month.

Fatima Mario, Fiji Hockey development officer, explained that these league matches serve a dual purpose: aiding school teams in their competition preparation and fostering the overall development of hockey. The Suva Hockey Association initiated its development programs at the start of the year and has already observed significant growth, particularly in the number of young players embracing the sport.

This is to just give the schools here some game time before the main competition. This is also part of efforts to try and develop thee players and develop the sports.

Mario emphasized that these league games are crucial for encouraging more young individuals to engage with hockey. The initiative highlights a commitment to nurturing talent and expanding the sport's reach within the community.
