Schools in Saxony-Anhalt can borrow robots and 3D printers for free

Schools in Saxony-Anhalt will be able to borrow robots, 3D printers and other digital equipment free of charge, with the technology delivered directly to classrooms.

The equipment will be ordered through an online booking system. The mobile digital laboratories will let students try modern technologies, learn programming and use the tools in their own projects. The offer includes robotics, 3D printing, sensors, laser cutting, and equipment for immersive learning in virtual environments.

The state will also operate permanent facilities in Halle and Magdeburg. According to the education ministry, about 2.7 million euros has so far been invested in the mobile and stationary laboratories.

Education Minister Jan Riedel presented the program at the Willy Brandt Integrated Comprehensive School in Magdeburg. He said digital education depended not simply on placing technology in a classroom, but on how students and teachers could use it.

A new online learning office will provide digital self-study courses in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology. Students will receive help from online learning staff when they have questions. The program will initially target fifth- and sixth-grade students and is intended to support independent learning across different teaching formats.

The laboratories and online learning office form part of the state’s Lernwelt Sachsen-Anhalt program, which also includes educational software, a self-learning portal, artificial intelligence applications and telepresence services for students who cannot attend classes for extended periods, including for health reasons.
