Scorpion invasion in a Buzău household; resident finds over ten in a single week

A homeowner in Buzău County, Romania, has described an alarming "invasion" of scorpions, reporting the discovery of more than ten specimens within a single week. The owner, Virgil Bâgiu, found four scorpions inside his home and over ten within the property's grounds. He expressed anxiety about encountering the creatures, stating, "You don't know when we might encounter them."

The scorpions have appeared in various locations within the house, including the kitchen sink, the bathroom, and even inside a refrigerator box. Bâgiu noted that the majority of the scorpions were found near a wall he had demolished for house renovations, suggesting they may have been disturbed from their hiding places in the stones and soil.

Bâgiu has alerted the local Cozieni City Hall and is seeking a solution to the problem. He managed to capture one scorpion from the sink and intends to present it to specialists for accurate species identification. The presence of scorpions has made him cautious, prompting him to thoroughly check objects before touching them.

The region is known to be inhabited by the Carpathian scorpion, a small species typically found in rocky areas and hiding under stones or in crevices. While these scorpions are adapted to such environments, they can sometimes venture into households located near their natural habitat. Experts indicate that the venom of the Carpathian scorpion is not considered dangerous to humans, though allergic reactions to stings are possible, and direct contact should be avoided.
